Hello Bloomers!
I love making these easy and yummy hand pies - there is something so comforting about these warm, flaky pastries fresh from the oven. They're quick to make, require just four ingredients, and taste like a little pocket of happiness.
These little hand pies have become a go-to in our home. We make them for lazy weekend treats, dinner party desserts, and even holiday gifts, customizing them with different fillings depending on the season. And the best part? You can whip them up anytime without making a mess or breaking a sweat!
What You’ll Need
You only need four simple ingredients to make these delicious hand pies:
Pre-made pie crust – I use Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts you can get at any grocery store, just to keep things easy, but homemade works too
Your favorite jam or pie filling – Strawberry, apple, blueberry, or even Nutella!
for my batch pictured, I used Hershey's milk chocolate bar squares and Bonne Maman blackberry preserves
Egg – For that golden, bakery-style finish
Pure cane or Powdered Sugar (optional, for sprinkling) – Adds a little sweet and sparkle

How to Make Mini Hand Pies
Step 1: Roll & Cut the Dough
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crust and use a round cookie cutter or a glass to cut out circles (about 3-4 inches in diameter).
I recently made these for Valentine's treats so used a heart shaped cookie cutter
Step 2: Fill the Pies
Lay half of the dough circles on a baking sheet. Add about 1 teaspoon of jam or filling to the center—don’t overfill, or things will get messy!
Step 3: Seal & Crimp
Top with the remaining dough circles and press the edges together with a fork.
Step 4: Egg Wash & Sugar Sprinkle
Whisk an egg and brush it over the tops for that golden bakery shine. Sprinkle a little sugar for an extra sweet crunch.
Step 5: Bake & Enjoy!
Bake for 12-15 minutes, until beautifully golden brown. Let them cool slightly before enjoying—though, trust me, they’ll disappear fast!

Serving & Storage Tips
Serve warm with ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temp or 5 days in the fridge.
Freeze unbaked hand pies and bake straight from the freezer (just add a few extra minutes to the baking time).
OR - wrap in a cute package and gift! This was my Valentine's treat for family and friends this year:
Fun Variations to Try
Savory Hand Pies – Try cheese & ham or spinach & feta.
Apple Cinnamon Pies – Use apple pie filling with a cinnamon sugar sprinkle.
Chocolate Lovers – Fill with Nutella or chocolate chips for an indulgent treat.
These mini hand pies are a little bit of magic in every bite—crispy, buttery, and packed with flavor. They remind me that sometimes, the simplest recipes bring the most joy (and the best memories).
So grab your pie crust and filling of choice, and let’s get baking!
